Cuban lightness, made suitable for everyday wear Where we got the inspiration for our lightweight bespoke sandalHavana? That’s no no secret. Well, this leather sandal does not have an actual model in Cuba, we developed it right here in Freiburg.
The combination of toe straps, or toe rings, with straps crossed over the instep is somewhat unconventional. With little effort here we achieve a very good hold on the foot, which is barely covered – Havannarelies on only one strap. Quite incidentally, this gives a nicely narrow sole and slim sandal. But of course we don’t forego our footbed here.
You can’t see it, but the strap is not sewn tight, but runs freely through the guides in the insole. The strap remains adjustable and can be fit precisely to the foot when tightening it, which comes in handy in case the leather gives a little after long wear.
The toe rings incidentally save from a supposed sandal sin: Socks don’t go withHavanna. At most, you could try toe socks or Japanese “tabi.” But that would be utterly un-Cuban.
P.S.:Well, of course we know thatHavannais spelled “Havana” in English, but we’re a German based store & workshop after all. So we treat ourHavannato the extra “n” and hope you’re not too confused about that.
