The Kobel tannery is located in the small northern German town of Kellinghusen. Since 1877 they have been producing high-quality, hard-wearing leather for industries including equestrian sports. The family business relies primarily on vegetable tanning agents, continuing a long tradition in the trade. Despite maintaining these traditional methods, current owner Sebastian Kobel keeps a close eye on new developments and embraces innovative techniques.
The quality of both the raw material and the tanning process can be assessed through the blank leather. With blank leather the surface is left unfinished, which keeps it light enough while still providing ample stability and suppleness. The very firm grain layer and dense fibre structure make this type of leather an ideal material for the premium leather bags and belts crafted by our artisan Norihiko Tsukinowa. Whenever he finds the time, he visits the tannery in the far north and is impressed anew by this tradition-rich company every time.
