We are often asked why we use vegetable-tanned leather for our sandals. Unlike rubber or foam, this material has the unique ability to absorb sweat and moisture in a short time. This creates a comfortable wearing experience that lasts for a very long time, thanks to the material's excellent adaptability. As a pleasant side effect, the patina — the surface of the leather — develops a character all its own. Speaking of comfort: some of our customers have noted that they feel a cosy warmth on their feet when wearing our sandals.
The versatility of leather offers a significant advantage not only for our customers, but also for the environment. Unlike short-lived materials such as plastic, leather is biodegradable and therefore an eco-friendly alternative. The prerequisite for this is the use of vegetable tanning agents during production. These can include oak or mimosa, for example. To avoid long and environmentally harmful transport routes, we source our vegetable-tanned leather exclusively from certified tanneries in the immediate region, which we visit on a regular basis.
